The event is commemorated on October 26 of each year
since 1965, a decade after a law declaring Austrian neutrality was proclaimed.
In the Amman ceremony, Wustinger saluted his guests
in a brief address in which he lauded his nation’s cordial relations with his
host country.
He also praised Jordan for hosting a large number of
refugees, asserting that Vienna “will continue to support Jordan with this
important cause”.
He noted that Austria provided aid of 5 million
euros to UNRWA, the UN agency caring for Palestinian refugees.
On the stalled Palestinian-Israeli peacemaking and
his country’s vision for a solution to the lingering cause of Palestine, the
ambassador declared: “I stress here the importance of the two-state solution,
as a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue”.
In remarks later to
Jordan News, Wüstinger
said that relations between Austria and Jordan “are excellent, and witness
significant progress and development year after year”.
He pointed to continued bilateral cooperation on the
various levels between the two friendly nations.
The ambassador said that Austrian tourists “consider
Jordan their favorite destination, especially the Golden Triangle”, which
comprises Petra, Wadi Rum, and Aqaba.
“When I take my comrades from Austria to
governorates such as Ajloun, Jerash, and others, they are amazed at the
splendor of these places,” he said. “This is clear evidence that Jordan has a
lot to offer to tourists, and that there are a lot of hidden gems that need to
be discovered.”
Herwig Neuper, the embassy’s commercial counselor,
told
Jordan News that a visit by an Austrian delegation to the Kingdom
in May was a “kickstart toward great cooperation between the two countries”.
“We look forward to operators in different sectors
to come to Jordan, and invest,” he added.
He said that Austrian representatives will participate in
ICT forum on the MENA region, which will be held in the Dead Sea on November
16–17. He said Austrian speakers at the parley will discuss the importance of
cybersecurity and digitalization.
