The three weekly
flights on the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with capacity for 243 passengers will
operate out of Queen Alia International Airport.
JTB said “this extremely
important step will facilitate the increase in tourist traffic from America.”
Minister of Tourism
and Antiquities
Nayef Al-Fayez told
Jordan News that United Airlines
started direct flights from Washington to Amman on May 6, adding that this is a
major step for the Kingdom’s tourism as linking Amman with Washington will
encourage American travelers to come to Jordan.
Director-General of
Jordan Tourism Board Abdul Razzaq Arabiyat told
Jordan News: “We welcome
United Airlines in Amman, and work together to bring more travelers to
experience our country.”
According to
Arabiyat, United Airlines is important because it has a wide destination
network across the US and within
South America, and that will contribute to
encouraging tourism to Jordan.
“There is
confidence in the Jordanian tourism product, and there is great demand from
American companies,” he said.
The head of the
Tourist Committee of the Jordan Society of Tourism and Travel Agents, Salama
Khattar, told
Jordan News that the direct flight between Washington and
Amman will have a positive impact as it is bound to attract large numbers of
tourists, reiterating that this is an “excellent and promising step”.
After two years of
stagnation due to the pandemic, there is demand in the US for tourism to Jordan,
“and it is expected that we will witness greater numbers of tourists at the
beginning of June”, Khattar said.
Airport
International Group CEO
Nicolas Claude expressed satisfaction at the arrival of
the first United Airlines flight, “which marks the start of a new direct flight
between Amman and the US capital, Washington”, and said that the group
endeavors to expand the airline network, and provide travelers with a direct
link with a major communication hub.
“As the only American airline to fly directly from Jordan to
the
US, our new service enhances the airline’s international network and
provides our customers from Jordan with convenient, one-stop procedures through
the Washington Dulles hub to destinations across America,” he said.
