AMMAN — The Arab consultative meeting held in the Egyptian city of
El-Alamein on
Tuesday is seen by political commentators interviewed by
Jordan News as
a great opportunity to promote joint Arab action and unite the Arab ranks to
face the challenges the Arab region is witnessing.

The meeting brought together His Majesty King
Abdullah, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa
Al- Khalifa, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, and Iraqi Prime
Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi.
Lawmaker Khalil Attieh told
Jordan News that
“the participation of King Abdullah in the meeting comes within the framework
of His Majesty’s efforts to unify Arab positions on all different issues”.
He added that “the meeting aims to unify all efforts
aimed at reaching lasting solutions to crises in the countries of the region,
and contributes to laying the foundation of security and stability in these
countries, in addition to achieving stability and peace for their peoples”.
“This unitary vision is what Jordan truly believes
in, and which His Majesty the King constantly seeks to consolidate during his
meetings with Arab leaders and also during his speeches in international
forums,” he stressed, adding that “We, as MPs, support this trend and
acknowledge its importance and the need to continue it. We strongly support
joint Arab meetings because of the positive impact they have on Arab peoples.”
Geopolitical expert Amer Al-Sabaileh told
Jordan
News that “these meetings are close to becoming almost periodic” and their
aim is to “discuss and unify views on some policies, the most important of
which may be, at this stage, those concerning the Iraq and Syria dossiers, the
change of the Turkish policy, as well as the repercussions of the
Ukrainian crisis”.
However, one should not expect “real outcomes from
such summits, as their goal is to unify positions rather than take measures”,
he said.
Political expert Hassan Al-Momani told
Jordan
News that “His Majesty the King is a pioneer of joint Arab action, and his
participation is a qualitative addition to such meetings”.
He elaborated, saying that “in recent years, there
has been multilateral, Arab-Arab cooperation. Jordan played a major role in
that by establishing multiple strategic companies, be they
Iraqi-Egyptian-Jordanian, or, later, Jordanian-Egyptian-Iraqi-Emirati, or
strategic partnerships with the GCC and others”.
“I think that such summits ultimately serve to
strengthen joint Arab cooperation. The importance of this latest is that it
tackles a number of issues, and that it comes as the region has been suffering
for years from conflicts, crises, and international challenges, especially the
conflict in Ukraine, and the US-Chinese tension,” he added.
Momani also said
that “this meeting comes after intense diplomatic activity that took place
recently, such as the visits made by His Majesty King Abdullah or the visit of
US President Joe Biden to the region and the Jeddah summit.”
“In addition to that, these summits are important
because they deal with issues related to the economic realities and challenges,
most prominent of which are food security and the energy dossier,” he said.
The present meeting is also important “because it comes
before the convening of the Arab Summit, bringing together five countries that
have common visions and denominators on many issues, be they political,
economic, or security related”, he said.
