During the discourse,
Ambassador Zomlot delved into the
current scenario in Gaza and the evolving global and Western outlook toward the
Palestinian issue. He underlined the necessity for a peaceful resolution to the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict, one that aligns with international law and UN
mandates.
Ihsan Hamarneh, the President of the Orthodox Cultural and
Educational Society, began the event with a welcoming speech, followed by
Husam Zomlot's address. Moderating the session was Eng. Mahmoud "Mohamed
Kheir" Obaid, the President of the American University Alumni Club in
Cairo, Jordan.
The discussion concluded with Hamarneh and Lubib Qamhawi,
the trustee member of the American University Alumni Club in Cairo, Jordan,
extending their gratitude to
Ambassador Zomlot.
“The remarkable impact of the events on October 7, which stirred global upheaval and showcased Israel's actions, thereby jeopardizing the international system.”
Zomlot highlighted how the Israeli government has been
attempting to mar the Palestinians' image in the Western world, with a
continued effort over the years to instigate a negative portrayal. He pointed
out, “The Israeli move to categorize Palestinians into three groups, aiming for
international immunity in case of their fatalities,” and added, “The remarkable
impact of the events on October 7, which stirred global upheaval and showcased
Israel's actions, thereby jeopardizing the international system.”
He also emphasized that one of the strategies includes
targeting the media to conceal the occupation’s wrongdoings and to prevent the
occupation from being globally recognized. He shared anecdotes about the
destruction in Gaza, which has not spared any universities, schools, roads, or
religious institutions, and the occupation’s intent to commit
genocide against the Palestinian population. He called upon the international community to
shoulder its responsibility in ending the occupation, safeguarding the human
rights of the Palestinians in Gaza, and conducting independent international
investigations into the alleged Israeli human rights violations during the wars
and attacks on Gaza.
Zomlot concluded with an optimistic outlook, aligning
himself with the Arab population in Palestine and the diaspora, expressing
confidence in
Gaza's restoration and a free Palestine, albeit after some time.
Meanwhile, Hamarneh praised Zomlot for his relentless
advocacy for resistance and the Palestinian people's right to
self-determination. He noted that Zomlot's boldness surpasses the capability of
most nations, given the ongoing global events and their governments' stances.
Hamarneh reiterated the society's commitment to mobilize Palestinian and
Jordanian public opinion in support of the Palestinian people's rights and
aspirations and to resist all forms of normalization.
