The meeting will
tackle three significant topics, namely how to expand the adoption of renewable
energy sources in the region, the integration of renewable energies and energy
efficiency, according to Ellen von Zitzewitz, deputy director for energy and
climate cooperation at the ministry.
In a press
conference on Sunday, Von Zitzewitz said the Jordan gathering will convene in
cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in Jordan.
She said that
Jordan was picked “in light of the remarkable progress the country is
witnessing in adopting the central renewable energy approach.”
She indicated
that the
MENA region is characterized by the presence of high-density energy
sources, “especially if we look at the greenhouse gas emissions recorded there,
which are very high.”
Although some
countries, such as Jordan, face challenges in adopting hydrogen energy because
of water shortages, Von Zitzewitz stressed that “there are alternative
solutions that can be followed, such as desalinating sea water in
Aqaba.”
