employer.

Ministry official spokesman Mohammad Zyoud told
Jordan
News that “the Ministry of Labor seeks to save the time and effort of
auditors and investors,” and sparing citizens from queuing “falls under the
simplification of procedures for foreign workers and Jordanian citizens, who
should not have to waste their time at the ministry or its affiliated
directorates,” but simply “complete procedures while at home or at work.”
Zyoud stressed that working through the ministry portal
is perfectly safe, that procedures follow the rules, and that “there is no need
to fear that they will not be credible.”
"On the contrary, this step makes it easier for foreign
workers to keep their official papers and transactions as an electronic copy
that cannot be lost or forgotten, and it facilitates the routine procedures
followed. It also reduces the need for these workers to interact with employees,”
particularly important “in light of the health crisis we pass through.”
The decision, he stressed, applies to all foreign
workers who want to renew their work permits in the same profession and for the
same employer.
It applies to workers in the industrial and baking
sector, construction workers, hospitality industry workers, barbershops, and laundry
and fuel pump workers. He also noted that this electronic service excludes
workers of Syrian nationality.
Zyoud said that this procedure is only a continuation
of previous procedures that were automated and that the ministry is gradually
seeking to generalize electronic services provided to foreign workers without
them having to pay additional fees or exert additional effort.
According to Zyoud, the reason for excluding Syrian
foreign workers is the need to link and cooperate with other institutions
related to asylum institutions in general and the Jordanian Ministry of
Interior.
“We seek to study the issue carefully so that we can
make this service available to Syrian workers as well as to workers from other
countries."
Zyoud emphasized that the ministry is working to make
all its services entirely electronic and that the cooperation of auditors and
workers is bound to facilitate and speed up this process, which “will work in
the interest of all parties.”
“Every step that we take will be announced through the
official website of the Ministry of Labor,” he said.
Egyptian worker Abdel Salam Sayed told
Jordan News that he used to think that working online "was a little difficult, as I
was not used to using technology in this way, but I found it simple actually,
as the Ministry of Labor provides an accurate explanation of how to apply
through its website.”
Sayed said that before, he had to leave his job several
times over several days to be able to complete the paperwork involved in permit
renewal.
He also said it is preferable to make all services
electronic to reduce direct contact with others, as “we are all keen to
maintain physical distancing in order to preserve our health and safety.”
