Dentist, content creator, and avid Hiker Dr. Hosam Odeh enjoys sharing the hidden gems of the Kingdom with locals and guests alike. To
highlight the beauty of these areas and document the details about them was an
unlikely path, but necessary one. In 2015, Odeh, after getting his degree from
the University of Jordan, realized that working as a dentist in a private
clinic meant working long hours, and unhealthy habits that left him overweight
and with poor nutrition, so the inspiration to get out of the rut, and into the
nature began. اضافة اعلان
Odeh said, “On one of my friends’ trips, I had great
difficulty walking long distances due to my lack of physical fitness and
recurring pain in my knees, and I felt very frustrated, which prompted me to
think about changing my lifestyle. I started practicing walking and going on hiking trips, and I gradually began to love this type of activity and became
passionate about it.”
His interest in this type of adventure increased over time
and he began documenting his travels and posting them on social media. He
noticed a great response and interaction from people, and this prompted him to
continue these trips and introduce the hidden gems of the Kingdom.
He learned more about hiking and benefited from the
experiences he gained as a doctor to deal with the health challenges he faced
during trips. He also began searching for more information about this type of
adventuring which led him to plan trip itineraries and consult experts and
specialists.
“Jordan is distinguished by its wonderful diversity of nature, where you can visit deserts such as the Wadi Rum Desert and Al-Dahek Desert, forests such as Barqash Forests and Rasool Forests, water valleys in the south, and narrow valleys such as Shobak.”
Odeh seeks to enhance tourism in Jordan by promoting the
beautiful tourist areas in the country and believes the only way to get
immersed is to hike. He encourages people to visit areas like Wadi Al Hasa and
shares useful information about safety and preparation for hiking trips.
In addition, Odeh encourages the development of the hiking
community in the Kingdom and stresses the importance of learning safety and
following the necessary procedures when doing this activity. He also
communicates with the residents of the areas he visits to obtain useful
information about the local terrain and environment.
On both the personal and professional levels, Odeh faced
challenges, including balancing his time between his work as a doctor and his
passion for hiking. He also faced other challenges with his family at first
because they were afraid of possible dangerous paths, but he added that over
time they began to understand his passion, and go on hikes with him, instead of
shying away.
The most important methods he adopts are to follow the
principles of public safety and study the nature of the place, and through
short videos, people began asking about the areas and visiting them.
Odeh also said that Jordan is distinguished by the proximity
of the governorates to each other and the great environmental diversity in the
country. He added, “Jordan is distinguished by its wonderful diversity of
nature, where you can visit deserts such as the Wadi Rum Desert and Al-Dahek
Desert, forests such as Barqash Forests and Rasool Forests, water valleys in
the south, and narrow valleys such as Shobak.”
He added that such adventures help people get rid of the
stresses of life and bring them closer to nature.
