Majali said on Sunday that tourism this year in the
port city has “stood out”, with expectations that it will continue to do so
over the next two months. He attributed the tourism boom to a rise in the number
of tourist cruises docking in Aqaba and the budget flights that arrive and
depart from the city’s airport, a local news outlet reported.
A total of 842,962 people, including 408,646
tourists, registered at
Aqaba hotels in the first 10 months of 2022, compared
to 561,773 for the year of 2021, the commissioner said. This brought the
average booking rate of hotels to 52.9 percent, compared to 40.6 percent during
2021.
In order, Israeli, American, German, and British nationals
accounted for the highest number of international arrivals to Aqaba.
