Shawarbeh told Radio Hala that, as cold fronts typically bring strong winds, rain, snow, and frost, a maximum emergency plan was launched by GAM to deal with the weather conditions, with 5,000 employees working every shift.

As of late Tuesday, he added, the GAM emergency call center had received more than 800 calls.

Hundreds of pumps have been installed throughout the capital to deal with water flows, and while all main streets are passable, work is underway to open some secondary streets closed due to weather conditions in Sweileh, Jubaiha, and Tlaa Al-Ali, he said.

GAM has a total of 25,000 employees, he added.
