JCD said on Sunday
that upon inspecting an empty truck coming from Syria, having an Arab plate
number and driven by a man of Arab nationality, two large cartons of cigarettes
containing captagon pills were seized and handed over to the pertinent security
agencies to take the necessary legal measures.
A JCD source said
that Jordanian customs personnel are constantly working with all borders
security agencies to protect the national economy and citizens from all forms
of smuggling, especially drugs, because of their direct impact on human health.
Meanwhile, heavy
gunfire on the Syrian-Jordanian border resulted in the death of four drug
smugglers, according to information circulated by Syrian news outlets.
Suwayda 24 said on
Saturday that “four bodies were found near the Syrian-Jordanian border,
apparently of members of drug-smuggling gangs, who were killed last night.”
It added that the
Jordanian-Syrian border witnessed heavy gunfire that damaged several houses in
the village of Khirbet Awwad, south of Al-Suwayda.
Another news outlet
said that four smugglers were killed while trying to smuggle drugs into Jordan,
taking advantage of the bad weather and heavy rain.
