AMMAN — Official figures revealed that the
education sector in Jordan employs about 176,500 Jordanians, contributing to
11.1 percent of the total employment rate in the country, according to a local
news outlet.

Jordanian citizens comprise the overwhelming
majority of employees in the sector at 99.6 percent, while about 35,000 foreign
students are studying in Jordan.
Additionally, women make up about 59 percent of the
sector’s employees, while the overall contribution rate in employment did not
exceed 1.5 percent in the period from 2010 to 2020, constituting a very slow
growth rate.
The Jordanian education system contributes 6.6
percent to Jordan’s GDP, according to the figures.
Public spending on education in Jordan is about JD1.2
billion annually, representing 10 percent of the country’s total public
spending.
