11.5 million people in Jordan and one-third do not hold citizenship

AMMAN – As of the end of 2023, the current population size is approximately 11.5 million people, with at least one-third of them not holding Jordanian citizenship. Six million people have been added to the current population size over the last 19 years.اضافة اعلان

As reported by Khaberni, the results of the 2015 General Population and Housing Census indicated that the number of non-Jordanian residents in the Kingdom reached 2.92 million people, with 1.68 million males compared to 1.24 million females. Syrian, Egyptian, Palestinian, Iraqi, Yemeni, and Libyan nationalities constituted 93.2 percent of the non-Jordanian residents in Jordan.

Syrians comprised the largest percentage of non-Jordanians residing in Jordan at 43.4 percent, followed by Egyptians at 21.8 percent, and Palestinians at 21.7 percent. The remaining percentage, 13.1 percent, included other Arab and foreign nationals.

Census data shows that the percentage of non-Jordanians residing in Jordan increased from 4.2 percent of the total population in 1979 to 7.7 percent in 2004 and further to 30.6 percent of the total population in 2015.
