The project is funded by the Canadian government with a value of 11 million dinars, aiming to enhance energy efficiency and renewable energy in the Southern Jordan Valley.
According to the agreement, the project will be implemented over five years, with parallel efforts in the energy, water, and food (NEXUS) sectors to achieve sustainable and inclusive development in the region.
The project is expected to support the local economy and improve the quality of life in local communities.
The second phase of the project includes a range of activities aimed at raising community awareness about the importance of renewable energy and its efficient use, as well as implementing effective solutions in many government and service facilities.
This includes the establishment of an electric charging station, conducting energy audits for several government buildings in the Southern Jordan Valley, and improving energy efficiency in three public schools and three health centers.
The second phase also includes providing training programs for workers in small and medium-sized enterprises and civil society organizations, as well as developing entrepreneurship programs to create new job opportunities across various sectors. In addition, the phase will focus on building the capacities of municipalities in the region.
Rami Hamza, Director of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund, confirmed that the project is a significant step towards strengthening the partnership with the Canadian government in achieving Jordan’s developmental goals and its commitment to sustainable development through the application of innovative solutions in renewable energy and energy efficiency.
He noted that this collaboration will positively impact the local communities in the Southern Jordan Valley and strengthen their capabilities in various fields.
For his part, Engineer Mohammad Ramadan, Director-General of the Economic Development and Sustainable Energy (SEED) project, stated that the agreement aims to cover the Southern Jordan Valley with projects that will be implemented in partnership with the Energy Fund, enabling the region socially and economically, and creating job opportunities for women and the local community.
He added that this project is a continuation of the successful first phase, which was implemented in Ajloun Governorate and the Deir Alla District, where energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions were applied to 11 government buildings, including six public schools and five health centers.
Renewable energy solutions were also applied to the municipalities of Deir Alla and Al-Madi, with the installation of two solar energy stations, each with a capacity of 952 kW.
Ramadan also mentioned the installation of solar panels with a capacity of 52 kW at the Ajloun Castle, as well as the installation of independent photovoltaic systems for four forest protection towers in Ajloun, which operate independently from the electrical grid.
