AMMAN —
Fourteen civil society institutions in Jordan have launched a coalition under
the “National Alliance for International Human Rights Mechanisms” Tuesday,
Amman Net reported.

The coalition will
work to enhance Jordan’s endeavors to fulfill international obligations
enshrined in human rights conventions by submitting reports, discussing them
and following up on the recommendations issued by the
UN mechanisms in
partnership with all relevant parties, to ensure the promotion and protection
of human rights.
The coalition also
aims to strengthen civil society institutions partnerships, build local,
regional and international expertise in preparing reports, writing skills,
collecting data, and push toward implementing recommendations and observations
issued by UN entities.
It aims to
coordinate relationship between civil society institutions concerned with human
rights and official institutions.
The coalition
approved a code of conduct and rules of procedure for its work; it was agreed
that an executive committee consisting of Noha Mahrez, from the Women’s
Solidarity Institute Association; Moaz Momani, from
Lawyers Without Borders;
and Asim Rababaa, from the Adalah Center for Human Rights, will be formed, and
that the members will serve for two years.
Rababaa was
appointed general coordinator of the coalition, which will be publicly
announced on December 19 as part of a celebration it will hold on the occasion
of the International Human Rights Day under the auspices of Senate President
Faisal Al-Fayez.
The coalition
includes the Jordanian Women’s Solidarity Institute, the Jordanian Association
for Human Rights, the Women’s Visions Association, the Center for Mediators of
Change and Sustainable Development, the Awareness Center for Human Rights
Training, the Tamkeen Center for Legal Aid, the Center for Change for the
Empowerment of Society, and the I’m Human Association for the
Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Creativity and Challenge Charity Association, Yarmouk Builders
Association, Professional Tools for Training and Capacity Building Foundation,
Adalah Center for Human Rights Studies, Lawyers Without Borders, and the
Institute for Politics and Society. The coalition is open to organizations and
individuals working in the field of promoting and protecting human rights.
