The Ministry's spokesperson, Yanal Al-Barmawi stated that
the ministry handled these complaints following the regulations governing the
market, especially Consumer Protection Law No. 7 of 2017, Industry and Trade
Law, and Competition Law.
Barmawi added that some complaints were resolved amicably
through the exchange, repair, or refund of the goods. Pages of the complaints
were also referred to the
Electronic Crimes Unit to provide the Ministry with
data on the suppliers for necessary legal action against violators.
He pointed out that the ministry, through the
Consumer Protection Directorate, monitors misleading advertisements by tracking
providers' websites and their compliance with their advertisements. Any reports
of misleading advertisements are followed up to rectify the situation for the
violators. Additionally, the ministry conducts joint inspection tours with
relevant authorities to oversee commercial establishments and providers.
The complaints from consumers are received through various
communication channels, studied, and solutions are reached that satisfy
consumers without harming the interests of the providers, in collaboration with
relevant authorities, Barmawi explained. In case non-compliant providers do not
cooperate in resolving complaints, notices are issued for a specific period,
and if the situation is not rectified,
violation reports are issued against
them.
Barmawi highlighted the Ministry's awareness role, launching
campaigns and implementing educational activities throughout the year,
especially regarding online purchases, emphasizing the important guidance for
citizens during online purchases, such as obtaining a clear purchase invoice
and warranty terms. Consumers should use the option to preview the item
regardless of its type or nature and request the personal information of the
supplier, if possible, not just the delivery companies' information.
Complaints can be submitted to the ministry's Consumer
Protection Directorate through the "Bkhadmatkum" platform, the
ministry's website, Facebook page, or WhatsApp number (0797527819). Consumers
can also visit the Consumer Protection Directorate at the ministry's building
or the Consumer Protection Unit in the directorates of industry and trade in
the governorates.
In 2023, the Ministry issued the
National E-commerce Strategy and its action plan for 2023 to align with the strategic objectives
and pillars of the Economic Renewal Vision. The strategy aims to make Jordan
one of the fastest-growing e-commerce and online retail centers in the region.
Efforts are underway to create the necessary legislative environment for
regulating e-commerce in coordination and consultation with relevant entities.
