AMMAN – The
Director of the
National Cyber Security Center (NCSC), Bassam Maharmeh,
revealed that 169 incidents related to espionage, information theft, and
unauthorized access were detected by groups associated with various countries,
Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

During discussions with the
Parliamentary Financial Committee, Maharmeh stated that there are two types of cybersecurity attacks.
The first category is associated with criminal gangs seeking financial gain.
The second type consists of groups affiliated with governments that target
confidential information and engage in espionage.
Maharmeh also noted that the total number of cybersecurity
events over the last year was 2,455, marking an 80 percent rise from the total
number of incidents in 2022, which was 1,362.
The NCSC has expanded its capabilities in incident detection
by increasing its staff. The number of employees has now reached 130.
Furthermore, the center monitors a total of 83 institutions,
compared to 31 at the end of 2022.
Regarding expenditures, Maharmeh estimated the combined
current and capital expenses for the current year to be approximately JD31.3
million, reflecting an increase of JD19.5 million compared to the previous
year.
