AMMAN — Jordan witnessed nearly
170,000 traffic accidents in 2022, resulting in 562 deaths, and around 160,000
traffic accidents in 2021, resulting in 589 deaths, Interior Minister Mazen
Al-Faraya said on Thursday.

The minister was speaking during the
opening of the third national workshop held under the United Nations Road
Safety Trust Fund-sponsored "Awareness Campaigns and Law Enforcement to Promote
the Use of Seat Belts and Child Protection Seats" project, the Jordan News
Agency, Petra, reported.
According to Faraya, the growing number of
traffic accidents is “reason enough to work together with relevant authorities
to revise the current traffic law”.

‘Proactive’ awareness-raisingThe Ministry of Interior, through the
Public Security Directorate, was “proactive in raising public awareness about
traffic safety via all available channels” and has held social events and
lectures in a number of cities and governorates regarding road safety, Faraya
said.
The workshop is a direct result of Jordan's
efforts to reduce road accidents under the directives of His Majesty King
Abdullah, he added.
