— The
Criminal Information Administration of the
Public Security Directorate has reported a 4.12 percent decrease in drug crimes in Jordan in 2022.

The
figures show that 18,334
drug crimes were committed last year, compared to
19,122 in 2021.
Drug trafficking and abuse remain a concernAccording
to the administration's annual statistical report, a total of 20,055
drug crimes were committed in 2020, which was the highest number in the past six
years. In comparison, 19,500 were committed in 2019, 18,400 in 2018 and 13,950
in 2017, according to different local news sources.
Crimes of possession and use of narcotic substances made up 71.12 percent of the total
percentage of drug offenses, while 28.88 percent of drug crimes were related to
trafficking.
The data indicates that the rate of drug crimes in Jordan in 2022 was 16 per 10,000 people in the population, compared to 17 per 10,000 in 2021 and 19 per 10,000 the year before that.

Amman tops the list for drug crimesOn
the provincial level, Amman, the capital, came on top regarding drug crimes at
7,260, followed by central region at 4,212, northern region at 3,836 and for
the southern region at 1,777. However, the Badia Police impounded 1,249
criminal acts.
In
terms of drug crimes committed by foreigners, the administration recorded 1,801
drug-related crimes last year.
