AMMAN — Irbid Governor

“Irbid Boulevard” project, and a light train to ease traffic congestion in
certain parts of Irbid, Jordan’s second largest city, Khaberni reported.

The Boulevard project, similar to that in Abdalli district in Amman, is in its
initial phase.
Kofahi said the project is being studied by the 30-member Consultative Supreme
Council, which cooperates with the private sector, and the
Greater Irbid Municipality. He said that the council recommended the establishment of the
Irbid Boulevard project.
He stressed that the committee was formed to develop preliminary studies of the
project's elements and objectives, and will recommend some investors.
Boulevard Irbid's main objective is to provide different services to the region
by attracting investors and improving the economy by increasing employment
opportunities for the youth during and after the construction phase.
The form of the advisory tender with the purchase is through the two systems
(BOOT, TTT), which is the design, construction and operation, and then the
re-ownership of the municipal system.
Little details were provided on the train. But last month, Kofahi said the
train was part of five major projects to be carried out in Irbid in the next
two years.
He said the rail track will link Irbid with the
University of Science and Technology and King Abdullah II Hospital. He said the
project will facilitate mobility, until a radical solution to traffic jams on
the Al-Thaqafa circle.
