AMMAN — Jordan witnessed a
significant 15.2 percent decrease in the number of new
marriage contracts
signed in 2022 compared to 2021, Al-Saa News reported.

Last year, a total of 63,834 marriages were
registered at Jordan’s courts, while 75,360 marriages were registered the
previous year.
Drop in divorcesMeanwhile, the Kingdom also witnessed a
decline in the
total number of divorce cases registered with Sharia courts in
2022 compared to 2021, as the number dropped by 6.8 percent to reach 26,756
cases.
The divorce rate for marriages that took
place last year stood at 5.8 percent, a percentage that remains more or less
constant compared to recent years.
Total Sharia casesDuring a press conference on Monday,
Chief Islamic Justice Abdul-Hafiz Al-Rabtah said that the Kingdom’s
Sharia courts received a total of 118,674 cases last year, up by 11,113 cases
compared to the previous year.
Despite this increase, the courts
maintained a high rate of completion for those cases, at 98.8 percent, he said.
