AMMAN – On Sunday, the
Department of Statistics (DoS) monthly report indicated that the total licensed building area in
the Kingdom has increased since the beginning of 2023 until the end of
November, reaching 8.7 million square meters, compared to 8.26 million square
meters during the same period in 2022, representing a
growth rate of 5.4
percent.

The total number of building permits issued in the Kingdom was 22,552 licenses
by the end of November, compared to 23,662 licenses during the same period in 2022,
indicating a 4.7 percent decrease, Khaberni reported.
Additionally, the licensed areas for
residential purposes reached approximately
7.2 million square meters by the end of November, compared to around 6.9
million square meters during the same period in 2022, reflecting a 4.3 percent
increase.
Meanwhile, the licensed area for non-residential purposes during the first 11
months of 2023 was approximately 1.5 million square meters, compared to 1.4
million square meters during the same period in 2022, showing a 7.1 percent
increase.
Residential buildings accounted for 82.8 percent of the total licensed area,
while non-residential purposes constituted 17.2 percent.
At the regional level, the Central Region accounted for 66 percent of the total
licensed area in the Kingdom during the first 11 months of 2023, a 0.2 percent
decrease compared to the same period in 2022. The Northern region’s share was
25.3 percent, showing a 2 percent increase, while the
Southern region accounted
for 8.7 percent, with a 4.4 percent decrease from the same period in
2022.
Regarding the relative distribution of licensed areas for residential purposes
by governorates, Jerash recorded the highest percentage, reaching 14.8 percent,
with an area of 1.04 square meters per capita. On the other hand, Mafraq had
the lowest percentage of new licensed areas per capita, at 4.1 percent, with an
area of 0.287 square meters per capita.
According to the report, the area licensed for new buildings and additions to
existing buildings constituted 65.2 percent of the total licensed area during
the first 11 months of 2023, while the licensed area for existing buildings
accounted for 34.8 percent.
The total licensed building area in the Kingdom has increased from the beginning of 2023
until the end of November, reaching 5.7 million square meters, compared to 5.2
million square meters during the same period in 2022, representing a growth
rate of 8.1 percent.
For November 2023, the data indicates that the total number of building permits
issued was 2,017 licenses, and the licensed area for buildings reached
approximately 761.1 thousand square meters, compared to around 804.8 thousand
square meters during the same month in 2022, showing a 5.3 percent decrease.
