Statistical data from the Jordanian Logistics Association revealed that the number of containers loaded with goods arriving at Aqaba Container Port increased by 25% during the first quarter of this year, compared to the same period in 2024. According to the statistical data obtained by the Jordan News Agency (Petra), the number of containers arriving at Aqaba Container Port in the first quarter of this year reached 109,621 containers, compared to 87,708 containers for the same period last year. The data also showed an increase in the number of containers loaded with goods and exported from Jordan via Aqaba Container Port in the first quarter of this year, rising by 12.5% compared to the same period last year. According to the data, the number of containers loaded with goods and exported from Aqaba Container Port to countries outside Jordan in the first quarter of this year increased to 25,693 containers, compared to 22,836 containers for the same period last year. The statistical data also indicated a 2.2% increase in the number of containers arriving at Aqaba Container Port during March of this year, reaching 37,794 containers, compared to 36,979 containers in the same month of the previous year. Similarly, the number of containers exported through Aqaba Container Port during March of this year increased by 12.5%, reaching 9,265 containers compared to 8,234 containers in the same month of the previous year. Nabil Al-Khatib, President of the Jordanian Logistics Association, confirmed to Petra News Agency that there has been noticeable activity in the number of containers arriving and departing from Aqaba Container Port, which began to emerge since the beginning of this year compared to the same period last year. Al-Khatib explained that the return of Aqaba Port to its previous activity would positively impact the commercial and service sectors in the Kingdom, particularly the transport sector, which is one of the main drivers for various economic sectors. He emphasized the need to provide more facilitation to make Aqaba Port more competitive and attract maritime navigation activity in the region, as well as importers and exporters, especially for goods coming through it towards Syria. It is worth noting that the Jordanian Logistics Association was founded in 2007 to represent professionals in the shipping industry in Jordan, provide a competitive environment, protect those working as freight intermediaries, and develop the working systems for freight forwarders and logistics service providers.
