AMMAN —
During January and February of the current year, the number of checks
circulated in Jordan reached 1.1 million, with a total value of JD6.5 billion,
as reported by the Jordanian Payment and Clearing Systems Company (JoPACC).

According to
statistics compiled by JoPACC, the number of returned checks in Jordan
decreased by 3.5 percent in February compared to the previous month, reaching
18,000 checks last month compared to 18,700 checks in January, Khaberni
reported.
The value of
returned checks for February of the current year amounted to 125 million
dinars, compared to JD143 million in January of the same year, with a decrease
of 12.6 percent.
The
statistics also revealed that 12,366 returned checks worth JD87.4 million in
February were due to financial reasons, while more than 5,600 checks worth
JD37.5 million were due to technical reasons. The percentage of returned checks
for financial reasons was 69.9 percent, compared to 30.1 percent for technical
reasons.
During
February, the number of checks circulated in Jordan was 523,000 checks,
compared to 537,000 checks in the preceding January, with a decrease of 2.7
percent.
The value of
checks circulated during February amounted to JD3.25 billion, compared to
JD3.35 billion in January of the same year, with a decrease of 2.8 percent.
