AMMAN — In 2021, 31 death sentences were issued and finalized in Jordan, one
of them for a woman, according to the National Center for Human Rights.

According
to Hala News, six of the sentences were issued by the State Security Court and
25 by the Grand Criminal Court.
No
death penalties were enacted during 2021, and the 31 inmates facing the death
penalty are currently being held in the Kingdom’s rehabilitation and correction
centers.
These
statistics were included in the National Center for Human Rights’ 18th annual report for the year 2021, which includes indicators on the human rights
situation in Jordan and a set of recommendations.
The
report was officially launched during a press conference on Wednesday attended
by representatives of the public and private sectors and civil society,
Al-Mamlaka TV reported.
On
Saturday, the chair of the center’s board of trustees, Samar Hajj Hassan, had
submitted the annual report to His Majesty King Abdullah by way of Royal Court
Chief Yousef Issawi.
