Madaba became a key
destination for tourism after winning the title of
Capital of Arab Tourism
2022, Janineh said, adding that the increase in the number of tourists is due
to the diversity the governorate offers, including religious, historical,
medical, and adventure tourism.
Since the beginning
of this year, Madaba has hosted many events and activities promoting it as
Capital of Arab Tourism, including cultural events featuring leading Jordanian
singers, distinguished artistic groups, and folklore ensembles from various
countries.
Janineh said that
various activities will continue to be held in the city, with Christmas and New
Year celebrations scheduled for this month.
In cooperation with
the Tourism Development Association, the Greater Madaba Municipality and the
Provincial Council will decorate the city center, light a Christmas tree, and
organize religious events at a number of sites in Madaba.
Janineh said that
the tourism sector is witnessing a significant improvement, and that number of
tourist establishments has reached 110: 20 hotels, 29 restaurants, 26
operators, 30 shops and five tourism and travel offices, which all employ 766
people.
Postage stamps with
Madaba were issued, and screens were installed at the
Visitors’ Center to
familiarize tourists with archaeological sites in the governorate, he said,
adding that guiding panels and signs made of mosaics were installed, and a
competition will be held for the best design of Madaba, the Capital of Arab
Tourism, to reflect Madaba’s mosaic identity.
