AMMAN — The 36th edition of the
Jerash Festival of Culture and Arts started on Wednesday; the 10-day event will be
filled with local, Arab and international artistic and cultural performances,
the majority to be held in the ancient city in Jerash, according to Al-Mamlaka
TV.

The opening ceremony started at 7pm with the
lighting of the festival torch, a performance by musician Tariq Al-Nasser,
dances, and performances by a group of Jordanian artists.
The festival’s executive director, Mazen Kawar, said
that this year’s program includes some 250 artistic, cultural, and craft
activities, and sees the participation of 1,500 artists and performers from
Jordan, the region, and the world. There will also be performances by 25 bands,
to be held in the Oval Plaza-main square, he said.
Held under the slogan “Nawarat Layalina”, the
festival will end on August 6.
