The cases were discovered following 12,528 inspection visits and
represent an increase from the same time last year when there had only been 52
cases detected, Al Ghad reported.
According to a recent study conducted by the
Jordanian Center for Workers' Rights, child laborers were paid an average of JD5 per day and were
particularly exposed to exploitation by employers and physical and mental harm.
The report found the most common
economic activities involving child labor included wholesale and retail trade, vehicle repair, agriculture,
manufacturing industries, and construction.
56 percent of children aged between 5 to 11 worked in the
agricultural sector, whilst those aged between 15 and 17 tended to work in
manufacturing industries, construction, and sales and vehicle repair.
Approximately 47 percent of child laborers are under the age of
14, and 28 percent of them are engaged in hazardous work.
