AMMAN — Jordanian Media Credibility Monitor (AKEED), an
observatory that publishes reports fact-checking misleading and inaccurate
information spread in the media, documented 385 rumors that were disseminated
among the audience in 2023, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

On Saturday, AKEED stated in a report that the average
number of rumors per month in 2023 increased to 32, compared to 30 per month in
2022.
AKEED recorded the highest number of rumors in May 2023,
with 52 rumors, accounting for 13.5 percent of the total rumors. The lowest
month was December with 12 rumors, representing 3.1 percent.
According to the report, economic rumors dominated the scene
in 2023, with 113 rumors, making up 29.4 percent of the total recorded rumors.
General affairs followed with 97 rumors, constituting 25.2 percent, then
security rumors with 86, accounting for 22.3 percent, health-related rumors
with 40, representing 10.4 percent, political rumors with 34, making up 8.8
percent, and lastly, social rumors with 15, at 3.9 percent.
Furthermore, the report highlighted that 93.7 percent of the
recorded rumors in 2023 originated locally, 5.5 percent had external sources,
and 0.8 percent did not have a specified source. It also noted that 74.5
percent of the rumors originated from social media, while 25.5 percent came
from traditional media.
