AMMAN — According to Jordan’s
Higher Education Ministry, 41,850 international students from 109 countries are studying at Jordanian universities, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

Muhannad Al-Khatib, advisor to the Minister of Higher
Education and Scientific Research and spokesperson for the ministry, said on
Thursday that 19,353 foreign
students or 46 percent are studying in public
universities, while 22,497 are at private universities.
Student recruitment planThe Ministry of Higher Education and the
Jordan Tourism Board have prepared a strategic plan to attract international students through
the board’s Educational Tourism Unit for the academic years 2023–2027.
The plan was approved by the
Prime Ministry and implementation
on the part of the Higher Education Ministry has now begun, he said.
During the second semester, the ministry will announce
updated statistics on international students who have enrolled in the Kingdom’s
universities, he said, suggesting that there will be an increase in their
numbers in coming semesters.
Nationalities and specialtiesThe most common foreign nationality among Jordan’s
international students is Palestinians, followed by
Syrians, Iraqis, Egyptians,
Kuwaitis, Omanis, Malaysians, Filipinos, and finally, Yemenis.
In Jordan, 5,154 foreign students are studying pharmacy, and
about 5,000 are studying medicine, according to Khatib, who said that Jordan
will graduate more than 5,000 Arab students as doctors in the next few years.
The Sharia university specialization follows with 4,398 international
students, then educational sciences and teacher training,
engineering,
humanities, literature, commerce and business, mathematics, computer science, and
auxiliary medical sciences.
