The number of containers loaded with goods and exported out of the kingdom through the port last year was 109,000 containers, down by 13% from 125,000 containers in 2023.

According to the statistical data, the number of containers imported to Jordan through the port in November 2024 increased to 42,562 containers, compared to 36,790 containers in the same period of 2023, marking a 15.7% rise.

Similarly, the number of containers imported in December 2024 reached 40,883 containers, compared to 31,770 containers in December 2023, a 28.6% increase.

The president of the association, Nabil Al-Khatib, described the 4% decrease in the number of containers imported to the kingdom via the port as acceptable, considering the prevailing conditions in the region, unstable maritime traffic in the Red Sea, and the repercussions of the Israeli aggression on Gaza residents.

Al-Khatib told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the second half of last year witnessed an improvement in the number of containers imported through Aqaba Container Port, despite the decline compared to 2023.

He expressed hope for continued improvement in the current year.
He noted that the decrease in the number of con
tainers exported from the kingdom through the port last year was due to weak purchasing power in export markets, competition facing some Jordanian products, as well as road shipments for exports heading to Gulf markets.

Al-Khatib, who also serves as the first vice-president of the Amman Chamber of Commerce, explained that maritime shipping rates remain high, as they have since the beginning of the Red Sea crisis, with many global shipping lines shifting their routes to the Cape of Good Hope.

The Jordanian Logistics Association was established in 2007 to represent workers in the shipping industry in Jordan, provide a competitive environment, protect workers in the freight forwarding profession, and improve the operational systems for freight forwarders and logistics service providers.

The association also represents the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) in Jordan, an NGO founded in 1926 in Switzerland.
