While breast cancer is the most common type of
cancer detected in women, rectal and colon cancers are the most common among
men, Khader noted.
He said that Jordan is fortunate to have the
National Cancer Registry (NCR), a body established in 1996 as the main
scientific cancer research establishment, and a source for collecting the
number of cancer cases nationwide.
In its latest statistics released five days ago, NCR said it researched 9,248 cancer cases across Jordan since 2018. Of the total,
76 percent were Jordanians who included 3,600 women with tumors, Khader said.
He said another study showed that cancer cases among
men were mostly in the rectum, colon, lung, bladder, prostate, and the lymph
nodes.
The study documented 291 people 15 years of age or
younger suffering from blood tumors, which ranked first among children,
followed by brain and nervous system tumors, lymph nodes, bones, and tissues.
Khader said that up to 90 percent of lung tumor
patients are smokers. He pointed out that 48 percent of the total cancer
patients in the country are over 65 years old.
Khader said that the rate of developing cancer
tumors in Jordan is 100 cases per 100,000 people.
