AMMAN —
A total of 344,796 students were enrolled at universities in Jordan in the
2020–2021 academic year, according to data from the
Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, according to Al-Ghad News.

Of these, 250,137
or 72.5 percent of students were enrolled in public universities and 94,659 or
27.5 percent were enrolled in private universities.
Women accounted
for 56 percent of the university student body in the Kingdom at 194,011. At
community college, men made up the majority of students at 54 percent or 19,146
compared to 16,528 women, according to the data.
There were 11,367
faculty members employed across the country’s universities, of which 70.5
percent worked at public universities and 29.5 percent worked at private
universities. Seventy-two percent of the faculty were men and 28 percent were
women.
The ministry data
showed that around 38,000 foreign students from 106 countries study in Jordan.
It also said that the
Kingdom’s universities offered a combined 1,876 specializations, of which 1,027
or 54 percent were offered at public universities and 674 or 36 percent were
offered at private universities. Community colleges offered a total of 175
specializations.
