Masarwa said that in 1994, Jordan had 5 million
people, while now, according to the Department of Statistics, it counts
11,281,721 people.
On Tuesday, the world’s population exceeded 8
billion, according to estimates by the UN Population Division.
“It is difficult for institutions to respond to the
needs of this population increase, and that is when problems appear,” said
Masarwa, stressing that “people are not numbers, they have needs and if they
are not met, great social and economic problems will appear”.
He called on developing countries, especially poor countries, to
“strengthen family planning and reproductive planning programs”.
