Arrests with large sumsOne beggar arrested in Aqaba in the south
of the Kingdom had JD870 on her person, with security records showing that she
had committed repeated begging offenses.
Meanwhile, an anti-vagrancy team apprehended
a wanted woman in Zarqa Governorate with JD375 in her possession. She was
transferred to the authorities.
A fast, easy way to earn moneySocial studies the ministry has conducted
on those arrested indicate that begging in Jordan has become a fast and easy
way to earn money and is typically not motivated by poverty or need.
Hence, ministry officials advise citizens
not to sympathize with people who are begging as one method of reducing this
rising phenomenon.
The ministry said it will continue to carry
out anti-vagrancy campaigns to curb the spread of beggars.
