AMMAN — Former ministers of higher
education, academics and university presidents called on the government to
clear the indebtedness of official universities and to implement decisions
taken by previous governments in this regard, which were not implemented,
according to Al-Ghad News.

The call was made during a panel discussion organized
on Saturday by the Cultural Forum of the
Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation and the
Scientific and Cultural Association for University Professors, titled
“Prospects of higher education in Jordan: the preparatory year and universities
indebtedness”, and attended by Minister of Education and Scientific Research
Azmy Mahafaza.
The eight universities’ debt is valued at JD192
million; it affected their performance and forced them to adopt unhealthy
admission policies in some programs.
