AMMAN — Data from the
Ministry of Social Development revealed that 90 percent of adult beggars caught between October 14 and 28 owned cars and had pension salaries ranging between JD260 and JD614, while the rest received income from other sources.

The media spokesman of the ministry, Ashraf Khreis, said in a statement issued on Monday, that the information and data indicated that 55 beggars caught during that period owned cars whose models ranged between 2000 and 2017, while a number of them owned more than one car, and a number of beggars owned both cars and collected pensions.
He pointed out that the data and information of the Ministry of Social Development was based on a study of their social and economic conditions, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
The ministry’s data found that 1,144 beggars were caught during the past month, among whom 203 were men and 226 were women.
The number of seized juvenile beggars reached 635, including 229 young women, and 406 young men, the majority of whom were repeat offenders, according to the periodic monthly report issued by the ministry for the month of October.
The ministry called on citizens not to give money to beggars, asking that citizens direct their alms to approved charitable organizations.
