The source stressed that the security services take
legal measures against those who have or carry illegal weapons and stressed the
role played by Jordanian Armed Forces-Arab Army at the borders in preventing
weapon smuggling.
Statistics issued by the
Public Security Directorate (PSD) a few days ago showed that since the beginning of this year, 1,371
weapons have been seized. The PSD stressed that everyone can report on such
cases by calling 0790196196, a line dedicated to this issue.
Retired Brig. Gen. Saad Al-Ajrami said Jordanians
acquire unlicensed weapons for various reasons, the most prominent being
social, as Jordanian families like to show off by carrying weapons or having
them in their houses.
Ajrami added that the security services are exerting
great efforts to control attempts to smuggle weapons from neighboring
countries, stressing that large cache, of different types of weapons, including
pistols and hunting rifles, are usually seized by the armed forces and other
security services.
