Speaking to a local news agency on Tuesday,
Zyoud confirmed the availability of drugs used to treat
chronic diseases such
as hypertension and diabetes. In the case of any supply shortage, the sector
also stocks alternative medicines that “work just as the original medicines”,
he said.
In terms of the supply mechanism, each
hospital submits and receives monthly orders for drugs, and can also make
emergency orders, the director explained. The health directorates for each
governorate are responsible for distributing medicines to healthcare centers,
however, citizens can also
obtain medicines directly from the directorates
under which they receive treatment, he said.
The Health Ministry keeps a strategic
stockpile of drugs to last for a period of four months, and work is underway to
boost the stockpile to last for five months, Zyoud noted.
