AQABA — Aqaba Container Terminal
(ACT) celebrated with its parent group A.P. Moller-Maersk, which is one of the
largest global port operators. The celebration is for the occasion of the
International Day of Safety. In addition, ACT introduced its new slogan,
"Caring is the basis of our leadership."

The Chairman of the Board of
Commissioners of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority and the Board of
Directors of the ACT, Engineer Nayef Bakheet, announced on Wednesday the
addition of five new port equipment into service at ACT.
In a ceremony organized to introduce
the new mechanisms, Bakheet told
Jordan News that this step comes as part of
ACT's investment plan, which aims to replace the current equipment with safer
and more modern equipment to enhance quality and operational efficiency.
The equipment includes four cranes
specialized in handling empty containers, valued at JD1.25 million, and a
forklift specializing in handling packed containers. The full containers are
valued at around a quarter-million dinars of goods. The total investment of
this equipment is amounted to about JD1.245 million. In addition, fourteen new
locomotives are also part of the latest equipment, valued at a total investment
of JD1.4 million. Finally, a new gantry crane is expected to come in the coming
years.
Bakheet pointed out that ACT has
always been keen on public safety, pointing out that introducing new cranes for
loading and unloading is a qualitative addition to the safety of the company's
employees and the speed of completion.
He added that the company has a set
public safety plan that it applies at work to ensure the safety of its workers.
The
Aqaba Special Economic Authority will also collaborate with ACT to train
several employees and public safety teams in different Aqaba ports.
Vice President David Skov of APM
Terminals in Africa and the Middle East told
Jordan News that they Have taken a
new slogan when dealing with the safety of employees and port users. This
slogan is now the basis of finding solutions to challenges for public safety
within daily operations. This new slogan, "Caring is the basis of our
leadership," includes promoting participation and interaction among
members of senior management and experts on the front lines of port operations.
Skov added that these new mechanisms
contain more than 10 additional safety features to enhance the safety of its
operators. In turn, the CEO of ACT, Soren Jensen, stressed that the Maersk and
APM Terminals focus on three main elements to deal with public safety,
categorized by considering their employees the experts of their worksites, and
stating that they can create solutions that improve the standards of safety
containing emergencies.
The celebration included site visits
to the main work sites, including workshops, docked ships, loading and
unloading operations, an inspection of storage of containers. Members of senior
management attended the visit to ensure that all matters related to public
safety were discussed with them.
