AMMAN —
The
Arab Renewable Energy Commission (AREC) has drawn up a practical energy
strategy for 2035 the commission’s Secretary-General Mohammed Al-Taani said on
Monday, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Arab governments
are “serious” about contributing to the energy transition, sustainable
development, and emission reduction, to reach the global target of net zero
carbon emissions in the world by 2050, Taani said. Arab investments in
renewable energy are expected to reach $1 trillion by 2040, he added.
Sustainable energy
investments in the Arab world is necessary for sustainable food, water, energy,
and environmental security to achieve self-sufficiency, he stressed.
The infrastructure
and electrical connections between countries are the biggest challenges facing
the energy transition and sustainable development in the Arab world, he
indicated, emphasizing the significance of achieving Arab economic integration
to serve Arab societies and governments.
Talking about the 7th International Investment Forum for Renewable Energy
and Energy Efficiency, which will be hosted by Amman at the end of this month
with Arab and international participation, he noted that the event will tackle
many vital topics in various fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency,
smart cities, smart grids, green hydrogen and sustainability, as well as
innovative agricultural patterns, energy management and automobiles.
The three-day event will
bring together representatives from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt, Sudan,
Libya, Palestine, Syria, Mauritania, Morocco, America, Switzerland, Germany,
Czech Republic, Netherlands, Romania, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Yemen, the UK, and
Chad.
