Aqaba - The Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) celebrated the winners of the 11th International Rum Race, a major sporting event that drew over 190 runners from 15 countries across the Arab world and beyond.اضافة اعلان

Organized by Unlimited Distances for sports competitions, the two-day race took place in the scenic desert of Wadi Rum.

Speaking on behalf of the ASEZA Chairman, Abdullah Najadat, Commissioner of the City and Region, highlighted the Authority's commitment to supporting sports tourism in Aqaba and Wadi Rum. He noted that events like the Rum Race showcase the natural beauty and unique landscape of the region, helping to attract international visitors and position Aqaba as a hub for outdoor sports activities.

Mohammad Sweiti, Director General of Unlimited Distances, emphasized the significance of the race, which was held across three distance categories: 84 km, 22 km, and 10 km.

He noted that Wadi Rum’s unique desert environment offers an inspiring backdrop for runners to explore natural landscapes, adding that the annual event enriches participants’ experiences and deepens their appreciation of the area’s striking scenery.

Najadat awarded the top honors in each category. In the 10 km men’s race, Jordan’s Mohammad Al-Sheikh took first place, while Australian runner Nadia Laham won the women’s title. For the 22 km race, Jordanian Luay Al-Basta claimed first place in the men’s category, with fellow Jordanian Juman Abdo leading the women’s category.

In the 84 km category, Qatari runner Ahmed Al-Sabbar secured the top spot for men, while Alvina Ivova won first place in the women’s division, leading Qatar to victory in the overall team standings.
