During the meeting held at the Ministry of Public Works, and attended by representatives from all relevant governmental and security agencies responsible for the border crossings, as well as representatives from the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), both ministers emphasized the need to develop the crossings in line with global border center design standards. This will ensure security, customs efficiency, and facilitate the movement of cargo and passengers, while considering future growth projections in Jordan and neighboring countries.
The participants, including Dr. Jamal Qteishat, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Public Works, discussed the comprehensive plan for the Jaber Border Crossing. They addressed points of disagreement and agreement regarding the designs for the first phase, movement paths, building locations, inspection points, and project implementation stages, including estimated costs and work priorities. The aim is to ensure the continuous operation of the border center during the project’s implementation without hindering the movement of cargo and passengers.
Abu Al-Samen and Al-Farayah stressed the importance of upgrading all border crossings to reflect Jordan's status and reputation, aiming to provide the best practices in serving visitors to the Kingdom. They also highlighted the need to offer the highest level of services for the movement of travelers, as well as for the trade and transit traffic passing through Jordan’s territory.
