AMMAN — The local movement Taharak (Move) is calling for the ban of Disney’s new film
“Death on the Nile”, which was banned in Kuwait and Lebanon due to the fact
that the main actress, Gal Gadot, served in the Israeli army.

“Death on the Nile” is directed by and co-starring
Kenneth Branagh. The story is one of the most famous works of British author
Agatha Christie, dubbed the Queen of Crime.
Taharak is an activist movement supporting
resistance and countering normalization with Israel. The movement has over
9,000 followers on Facebook alone.
Taharak coordinator Mohammed Al-Absi told
Jordan
News that the movement is calling for a boycott of the film because Gadot
is a “Zionist who supports the Israeli occupation, and participated in the war
against Gaza in 2006 and in the war against Lebanon between 2014 and 2016”.”
“We want to emphasize our position in boycotting any
movie that includes Zionists. We were successful once in banning one of Gadot’s
films, ‘Wonder Woman’,” Absi added.
Before Gadot started her acting career she was a
former Miss Israel and served for two years in the Israeli army.
Tareq Abu Al-Raghib, director-general of the Jordan
Media Commission (JMC), told
Jordan News that the movie is licensed to
be screened locally since it does not violate the JMC terms and codes.
“No official reason for the movie to be banned,” he said.
“The film was licensed to be screened and released in local cinemas because
there is no moral or legal violation to prevent its display,” Abu Al-Raghib
added.
