At the
ceremony, the minister reviewed all the projects funded by USAID that are being
implemented to enhance the efficiency of the water network, reduce losses and
improve water storage capacity, and stressed the need for enhanced cooperation among
all relevant authorities to ensure an efficient completion of work in the
sector.
Najjar
expressed the Jordanian government’s appreciation for the support provided by
the US government, especially USAID, to the water sector, which helps the
Kingdom face the challenges it faces.
The
renewal of cooperation through the agreement just signed is expected to help implement
the ministry’s programs within five years, 2021—2025;
to that end, the $8 million from USAID $800,000 will be added from the
ministry.
Secretary-General of the Water
Authority Bashar Batayneh said that
the project would improve the monitoring and control of supply points in the Kingdom
governorates by linking the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system of the three water companies with the
Jordan Valley Authority.
The
project is in line with His Majesty King Abdullah’s directives to use
technology to address water challenges, particularly to determine water losses
in all parts of the Kingdom.
Batayneh said that the upgraded system would monitor
the quantities of water at governorates supply points, underground water, and
water in the dams and ensure a more efficient water distribution.
SCADA system will also provide data and reports that support decision-making and setting
strategies and will improve the level of services to the Jordanian citizen.
Through the project, the ministry hopes
to come up with optimal plans to help it deal with the fluctuating demand.
