AMMAN —
Minister of Agriculture Khaled Hneifat and Resident Representative of the
World Food Program (WFP) Alberto Correia signed an agreement to provide support to
farmers to excavate rainwater harvesting wells, according to the Jordan News
Agency, Petra.

Under the agreement, the support will be
provided to excavate 100 wells in the governorates of
Ajloun,
Mafraq, and
Karak by providing JD1,500 to each farmer who owns these wells, in alignment with the
water harvesting program at the farm level within the agricultural plan for
2022–2025.
The two sides also signed an agreement to
develop agriculture in Azreq by establishing a number of greenhouses.
Hneifat stressed the importance of cooperating
with international partners in developing the agricultural sector, according to
the phases of the
National Sustainable Agriculture Plan, one of its key items
contains water harvesting plans through water collection wells inside cities
and farms, in addition to establishing dams and earthen pits that provide a
water reserve for home plants and drinking water, as well as providing water
for livestock.
He underlined the importance of maintaining cooperation
with the WFP and all international partners and the private sector to ensure a
real construction of the agricultural sector, in accordance with a clear and
coherent roadmap for the agricultural plan.
