Agriculture Ministry, cow breeders agree on compensation for FMD outbreak

AMMAN — The Co-op Society for Cow Breeders in Zarqa has agreed to the Ministry of Agriculture’s compensation package for farmers who suffered losses due to the foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) outbreak, according to local news outlets.اضافة اعلان

The society, which legally represents over 90 farmers, said in a statement that it has agreed with the ministry on zero-interest loan packages for farmers in the amount of JD20,000 through the Agricultural Credit Corporation.

The society has also agreed to the lifting of the animal movement ban imposed on the Al-Dhulail, Al-Khalidiyah. and Al-Halabat regions.

Under the agreement, the ministry is working to allow affected farms to import 25 percent of their total head of cattle.

Meanwhile, compensation for losses related to milk and medical bills will continue to be followed up through other official channels, including the office of the Prime Minister, Agriculture Ministry Spokesman Lawrence Al-Majali said on Sunday.
