A report on air quality monitoring in these
governorates for 2022, shows the average percentage of days with unsatisfactory
air quality reached 18.2 percent last year, compared to 15 percent in 2021.
The report attributed this
increase to emissions from human activities, especially those from the transportation, industrial,
and energy sectors that rely on burning fossil fuels, leading to higher
concentrations of particulate matter in the air, specifically PM2.5 particles,
with diameters less than or equal to 2.5 micrometers.
