In light of the recent hot weather, the tents will
provide necessary relief for travelers crossing the bridge, he said, adding
that cold drinking water will also be available.
Alongside the tents, Sartawi said ambulance crews will
be on standby. The border crossing with also be open twice as long to
facilitate the entry process for visitors.
This week and following
US President Joe Biden’s visit
to Israel and the West Bank, the Israeli authorities decided to open, without
interruption, the King Hussein Bridge border crossing, linking the West Bank
and Jordan, Israeli media reported.
The media outlets said that mediation efforts, led by
Morocco and the US, led to an agreement for the permanent 24/7 opening of the
crossing, which is the only point connecting Palestinians in the
West Bank to
the rest of the world.
The opening of this border crossing will be effective
from the moment certain logistical conditions are met, especially in terms of
human resources, according to Israeli officials. At present, the crossing is
open only 14 hours a day from Sunday to Thursday and 6.5 hours a day on Friday
and Saturday.
