AMMAN — The Jordanian Media
Credibility Monitor, known as "Akeed," reported on Wednesday that it
recorded 45 rumors circulating through local media and social media platforms
during the month of February.

This marks a slight increase from
December, which saw 40 rumors recorded, according to the Jordan News Agency,
Petra.
Public affairs top listAccording to Akeed's monthly report,
public affairs topped the list of February rumors with 17, accounting for 37.8
percent of the total number. Economic rumors followed closely behind with 13
(28.9 percent), security rumors with 8 (17.8 percent), political rumors with 4
(8.9 percent), and health rumors with 3 (6.6 percent).
Of the 45 rumors, 42, or 93 percent,
originated from local sources such as social media platforms and news websites.
The report revealed that 34 rumors,
or 76 percent of the total number, came from local social media, and 11 or 24
percent originated from traditional media outlets.
Akeed urged social media users to
refrain from sharing or re-posting any content without a credible source. The
monitor warned that relying on these sites for news without considering the
content's veracity can lead to incorrect and inaccurate news, rumors, and
misinformation.
