AMMAN —
Al-Yarmouk Water Company has confirmed the
allocation of JD474 million in financing for major water projects in the
northern regions.

These projects aim to reduce water loss through network
rehabilitation, meter replacement, improved water quality and services, and the
expansion and rehabilitation of sewage treatment plants.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the company emphasized
that these projects align with its goals of service development, performance
improvement, enhanced water supply, continuous provision, expanded service
quality to meet citizens' expectations, and facilitation of their transactions,
Hala News reported.
Some projects are currently being implemented, while others
are in the referral or study phase, to be executed as part of the company's
future plans.
Among the notable projects mentioned is the wastewater
project for the villages of West Irbid, Al-Wasatiyah, Al-Mughair, and Hakama,
which is being funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development,
the German Development Bank, the French Development Agency, and the European
Union, with a value of JD49.7 million.
Allocation of the funds
Additionally, there are projects in the final study phase,
valued at JD56 million, for the construction of sewage networks in the Sahl Houran
areas, expansion of the Ar-Ramtha purification station, and the establishment
of a reuse line, with funding from the French Development Bank.
The company also highlighted the allocation of a Dutch grant
worth JD3.806 million for the replacement of sewage lines and support,
operation, and maintenance of sewage networks in Irbid.
Decrease of obstructions and sewage overflow
Several main lines in the city that frequently experience
obstructions and sewage overflow have already been replaced, including approximately
1,100 meters of the hospital specialty street line, with a diameter of 300 mm.
Furthermore, work is currently underway on a project aimed
at reducing water loss through the modernization of water networks, procurement
of equipment and machinery for loss reduction in Irbid, Ajloun, and Jerash,
with a value of JD34.2 million, funded by the US Agency for International
Development, and the Vara project.
Another project focuses on rehabilitating the Wadi Al-Arab
purification stations in the Douqara and Fu'ara areas to ensure water quality
suitable for agriculture, with a funding value of JD33.6 million.
The company also mentioned tenders for billing purposes,
purchase and replacement of meters, procurement of equipment, and maintenance
of water networks for loss reduction, with a value of JD45.881 million, funded
by the US Agency for International Development.
Additionally, there is a technical support project for asset
management, valued at JD3.5 million, funded by a European source, which is
currently being implemented.
The company stated that the value of decentralization
projects aimed at improving water and sewage networks and network maintenance
in the four northern governorates amounts to JD3.437 million.
Currently, work is underway to implement projects funded by
the German government, the French government, and the European Union, with a
value of JD53.76 million, to enhance water networks in Irbid and Ramtha through
the installation of new transmission lines starting from 100 mm and above.
Additionally, a German grant of JD46.2 million has been
allocated to all governorates to improve water supply in areas hosting Syrian
refugees and the host communities.
The company also mentioned a program valued at JD45 million,
funded by the World Bank, aimed at reducing losses through the rehabilitation
of water networks. Furthermore, there is a project to rehabilitate the water
network in the Azmi Al-Mufti camp in south Irbid.
